Expanded metal sheets are produced by slitting and stretching sheet metal to create diamond-shaped openings. The openings in the steel sheets allow for air, liquid, sound, and light/visibility to pass through. Expanded metal grating is used for applications where strong, low-cost, open flooring is required as seen on catwalks, machine platforms, and stair treads. The long way of the diamond runs parallel to the length of the sheet with grating.
